Thursday, May 14 I got a ride with Papsy and Mamsy to Philcoa. I felt pleased cuz I didn't have to deal with the usual morning rush hour. Got off at Philcoa and by dumb bad luck chose THAT fx. There were many waiting for new passengers but I was just destined to have an adventure that day.
We picked up 2 new passengers right before the turning to Quezon Ave. They were two guys. The type
cofibean would call "orcs" but I didn't want to be judgmental. The first guy got in the middle and the second at the back right in front of me. As the first guy asked for his bag to be passed to him, I thought it was strange that they chose to sit separately. Maybe they didn't want to be squashed I thought. By this time, we were nearly full except for one more body in the middle. Without reason, I glanced at the cute leather bag clutched tighty by the girl diagonally across from me. A few seconds after they had boarded, the two guys made sudden moves.
The guy in front of me drew out a knife. I barely registered his words.
Holdap to. Wallet nyo, celfone nyo. Bilis! Bilis!Putangina, I thought. Great timing. It was supposed to be a short ride from Philcoa to the highway (MRT). From my peripheral vision I saw the first guy waving a gun. Knife guy was aiming straight at my knees so I complied. I had my bag open and was reaching for my wallet when there was a sudden commotion. Yes, more excitement!
The girl farthest from Gun Guy had opened the door and was trying to get out. We all screamed because we were still moving at a relatively fast speed. She would get hurt wouldn't she? For a few comical moments, Gun Guy had her by the shirt so she was half in half out.
Wag kang tatalon! the Gun Guy was shouting. She was shaking him off forcefully and ended up falling from the fx. We shouted even louder. Just like an action movie, I saw her hit the highway.
WAAAA! Masasagasaan ung babae! She hit the floor with a thump and rolled over and over. She lost her slipper and her backpack in the process. I glanced at Knife Guy and thought incredibly fast.
Gads, let them make a run for it!And they did! They aborted the whole thing. And why not? All other vehicles stopped behind us. And you know how it is in Quezon Ave. It's one of the busiest streets in Quezon City! Traffic stopped and for a minute we were all staring at a slipper and a backpack on the asphalt. The girl had taken off, pursued by Gun Guy and Knife Guy. The taxi driver, also some sort of hero, took off after them. We heard a shot. Later, he came back cursing about people who didnt give a damn.
We were all trembling at this point. For a few minutes, we didn't know whether it was safer out in the open or locked up in the taxi. As we cruised to the highway, we were all in agreement. If that girl hadn't jumped, we'd all have been dead meat. My celfon and all my stuff anyways. T_T
I like to think of her as an angel in disguise.
Did she get hurt? I don't know. The other passenger assured me she was. Her bag and slipper I saw taken by a jeepney passenger I assume to a precinct.
Whoever she was, I hope she gets lots of good karma.
And Knife and Gun Guy? Bad karma all the way for you, buddies...
